28-Jan-2010 Windows VM Added to the Farm
The Windows server VM has been added to the farm and the first 32-bit and 64-bit snapshot kits of Firebird versions 2.1, 2.5 and 3.0 have been automatically copied over to the snapshots area on the web server. V.2.0 snapshots won't be produced on this server because of MSVC runtime incompatibility. We'll let you know when an alternative is found.

26-Jan-2010 Tracker New Accounts Problem Fixed
The problem with creating new accounts in the Tracker is fixed. However, the "captcha" images provided by JIRA are not always good and it doesn't provide the ability to request a better one. If you can't read the image, you have to start over, sorry.

Memory exhaustion problems with the JVM that have been causing JIRA to crash in the past days seem to have been righted, at least for now. Thanks again, Pavel.

24-Jan-2010 New Servers for Test and Snapshot Builds
Broadview Software has created two new VMs for the project's developers and testers to use as build farms for POSIX and Windows, respectively.

This enables us to automate the daily snapshot builds and transfer them each day at approximately midnight GMT to the pre-release area for field testing.

At the moment, most of the Linux builds are available from the Snapshots page. Sergey will continue making his regular Linux builds available as a backup source. More news about other platforms and possibly other snapshot kits as the build farm develops.

19-Jan-2010 Tracker News
The problem with the tracker.firebirdsql.org URL has now been resolved and old bookmarks should work again.

There is still a problem with Java that is preventing the creation of new accounts in the Tracker system: some point in the layering does not like the OpenJDK. Pavel is working on that. In the meantime, if you don't have a Tracker account and need to file a bug report, please subscribe to the firebird-devel list and post the problem description there.

13-Jan-2010 Tracker is Restored
Firebird's Jira Tracker is now restored on the new VM, with data up to 5 December 2009. However, we have lost attachments from the last two years. Missing ticket headers from after Dec 5 will need to be reconstructed from notification messages.

The version of Jira is slightly newer than we had before, although it is not V.4.x, due to platform problems with the Tomcat layer. We now have some new features, including FishEye integration, already configured for the CORE project. Some reporting plug-ins may be missing: if so, it will take some forensics to detect which ones they were and whether they are compatible with the new setup. The Subversion and CVS integration plug-ins are installed and working.

Note that the URL is temporarily slightly different to what it was previously, so your old bookmark won't work properly. Once the re-licensing issues are sorted out, the URL will revert to the previous one.

This has been a difficult recovery. In short, we just didn't have the failure protection we thought we had and we failed to cover the unannounced disappearance of the project worker who set up Jira originally. The recovery task was achieved thanks to the huge effort and dedication of Pavel Cisar, who took on the task a month ago, single-handedly, as a "greenie". Some steps still remain to be done but the Tracker is open for business!

11-Jan-2010 No News is Not Good News
Sorry to say, the Project still has no Tracker and no news mirror.

If you have bugs to report, either in existing releases or in the V.2.5 first release candidate, please post your report to the firebird-devel list.

For now, if you find broken links on this website (other than those to the dead servers) then please feel free to inform us via a message to the firebird-website or the firebird-general list.

Joining instructions for all of these lists are HERE, or you can just click Resources > Lists and Newsgroups in the top menu.

18-Dec-2009 Windows Snapshots Available Again
The latest Windows snapshots have been uploaded. Refer to links in "currently testing" above or at the main download page.

18-Dec-2009 Catastrophic Events at Our Internet Host
Thanks to the progressive death of the NAS server from which all our Internet facilities are served, we lost everything - Tracker, website, Wiki and news mirrors - piece-by-piece over the past days.

By gargantuan effort, Sean Leyne and his colleagues at Broadview have been reconstructing our infrastructure from scratch. The main website is up (obviously!). Others are more challenging, requiring radical reconstruction using new versions of underlying software, and will take time.

For now, if you find broken links (other than those to our other servers) then please feel free to inform us via a message to the firebird-general list (joining instructions HERE).

More info as it comes to light.

08-Mar-2005 Firebird 2.0 Call for testers
The Firebird Project will soon be releasing the first public 'alpha' release of Firebird 2.0. Version 2.0 is a long-awaited important major release of Firebird with many new features, enhancements and bugfixes. In number of changes, the jump in this release is equivalent if not greater than the transition from version 1.0 to version 1.5.

You know that we care about quality, and that we will not release the final version 2.0 until it meets our strict QA requirements. For version 1.5, it took about a year before we were satisfied. But this time we are in a slightly different situation..

25-Aug-2004 Notes re Firebird 1.5.1 Documentation
    Release Notes
Two Release Notes documents are applicable to Firebird 1.5.1:
    • Firebird_v1.5.ReleaseNotes.pdf, the release notes that were distributed with the initial full 1.5 release
    • Firebird_v1.5.1.ReleaseNotes.pdf contains a list, with brief descriptions, of changes implemented in v.1.5.1. It also has a list of errata regarding the full release notes document.
Both documents are in Win32 installer kits and will be installed in the \doc directory beneath FirebirdRoot. The main (v.1.5) document may have been omitted from some Linux kits. It is available here, in several languages.

    Windows Embedded Server Notes
The v.1.5.1 release kit for Windows embedded went out with a serious mistake in the file \doc\README_embedded.txt. The mistake was corrected on August 11 and the corrected file was visible in the CVS viewer on Aug.15. To be sure you have the right info, go to the firebird2/doc branch and select the files tagged "B1_5_Release". The version number of the corrected file is 1.1.2.3.
